Since releasing the Shocking Pinks trilogy earlier this year, we’ve signed three new bands—one of them an incredible, young, electronic hip-hop group from the UK called Ruane Maurice. Despite having less than 200 Facebook fans and not a single song streaming online (prior to today), they’ve already built a substantial buzz in the UK club scene for their dark & sultry hip-hop aesthetic, playing with established acts like Mount Kimbie, Pariah, and Todd Edwards. With their first BBC spins now under their belt and a BBC live-to-air session confirmed for July, Ruane Maurice are premiering their debut single ‘Nomenclature’ on VICE / Noisey today. Their self-titled debut album releases September 9th on Brooklyn label, Stars & Letters Records.
“I’ve never done ketamine, but the British band Ruane Maurice’s new song ‘Nomenclature’ reminds me of a hypothetical situation in which I might be on K at, like, 4AM in a dingy club in Shoreditch, grinding my jaws relentlessly to RM’s multiverse of synths while being egged on by their creepy-sounding rap-guy. What I’m trying to say is Ruane Maurice are masters of painting a sonic mise en scéne…” — Noisey / VICE
